BELGIUM – In celebration of its 100th anniversary , the NMBS is organizing a special traveling exhibition this fall. Visitors will have the opportunity to see an impressive historic train approximately 300 meters long , assembled from iconic railway rolling stock spanning various eras of Belgian railway history.
The anniversary train will make stops in the following order: Schaarbeek, Liège-Guillemins and Antwerp Central. At each location, visitors can view the train for free between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.. Several train cars will also be open to the public.
The exhibition brings together a unique selection of historic rolling stock. Among other things, it will feature a steam locomotive, various electric locomotives and a few royal railcars are part of the train.
With this project, NMBS aims to take visitors on a journey through a hundred years of Belgian railway history and bring the rich railway heritage closer to the general public.
Visitors can tour the anniversary train on the following dates:
August 29 and 30 – Station Schaarbeek Station
September 12 and 13 – Station Liège-Guillemins Station
October 10 and 11 – Station Antwerp Central Station
The historic train is part of an extensive anniversary program organized by NMBS to mark its 100th anniversary.
Earlier this year, a special stamp series and a commemorative 2-euro coin. Numerous activities are planned for the coming months, including concerts at train stations, a podcast series, and the "Fashion & Trains" at Train World, and on October 4 open house days at the central workshops in Mechelen and Salzinnes.
