Tram Derails in Ostend; Tram Service Temporarily Suspended

OSTEND – On Wednesday morning, a tram derailed near the Thermae Palace in Ostend. No one was injured in the incident, but tram service between Ostend Station and Westende Bad was temporarily suspended.

The derailment occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. According to initial reports, no other road users were involved, and no one was injured. The exact cause of the incident is being investigated by De Lijn’s technical services.

Due to the derailment, tram service could not be resumed on the affected route. To ensure passengers could still reach their destinations, De Lijn deployed shuttle buses in both directions between Ostend Station and Westende Bad.

Technical staff are currently investigating whether the tram can be put back on the tracks. If the vehicle is still roadworthy, it will be returned to the tracks using specialized equipment. If that proves impossible, the tram will be towed away.

De Lijn advises passengers to expect delays and to check the latest travel information before starting their trip.
