Maldegem–Eeklo Steam Train Launches Fundraising Campaign

MALDEGEM – At Maldegem–Eeklo Steam Train , work is in full swing on the restoration of a unique piece of international railroad heritage. To further finance the work, the organization has launched a fundraising campaign for an authentic CIWL restoration car from 1927.

After restoration, the car will become part of the Orient Dining Express, allowing visitors to once again experience the atmosphere of the legendary luxury trains of yesteryear.

A Rich History

The dining car has an impressive history. For many years, it was part of prestigious international trains, including the famous Simplon-Orient-Express. It was also used during the state visit of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to Austria in 1969.

Since arriving in Maldegem in 2018 , volunteers have been working with great skill on a complete restoration of the carriage.

Fundraiser

According to the Maldegem–Eeklo Steam Train, the restoration work has turned out to be more extensive than initially anticipated, resulting in the available budget being almost entirely exhausted.

Through this fundraising campaign, the organization hopes to raise enough funds to successfully complete the project and preserve this unique railroad heritage for future generations.
