Trams Collide in Germany: Three People in Critical Condition

Up to 30 people were injured in an accident involving two trams in the West German city of Gelsenkirchen, according to police. Seven of the victims sustained serious injuries. Three of them are in critical condition. 

In the city center, near the Veltins Arena, a driving school tram suddenly came to a stop around noon. A tram carrying passengers that was traveling behind it then collided with the “stationary or slow-moving” vehicle, according to a police spokeswoman. A total of 25 to 30 people were injured in the collision. 

It remains to be determined why the school bus suddenly stopped on the major thoroughfare. A specialized team is on the scene to investigate the accident.
