A striking video is circulating on TikTok showing a passenger climbing out of a train through an open window after it had already left the station in Diest, Flemish Brabant, and started moving again. The man lowers himself onto the platform as the train continues on its way.
The NMBS says it has no official knowledge of the specific incident, but describes the footage as “an extremely dangerous situation.” “Leaving a moving train is, of course, strictly prohibited and, moreover, life-threatening for the person involved,” the statement reads.
According to the railroad company, such behavior not only endangers the passenger themselves. “It can also endanger other passengers and seriously disrupt train service. In some cases, train service must even be suspended, affecting potentially hundreds or thousands of passengers.”
According to the NMBS, whenever such a situation is identified, Securail and the police are always called in. “This constitutes a serious violation of railway legislation.”
Such offenses are punishable by an administrative fine of up to 500 euros. Depending on the circumstances, criminal prosecution may also follow.
